5th Annual Taste for Life

Feed a Hero, Be a Hero Fundraising Event

BALTIMORE, MD, January 21st, 2015– “Last year was the most successful year in There Goes My Hero’s six years, and we hope to grow even more this year,” said the organization’s founder Erik Sauer.

There Goes My Hero will be kicking off the year with the 5th annual Taste for Life event at the Pier V Hotel at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore on February 19, 2015 from 6:00-9:00pm. This networking event features an evening of bourbon tasting, craft beer from Heavy Seas, hors d’oeuvres from Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and live music – all in support of Hero’s meal program providing nutritious meals to leukemia patients and their families. Purchase your ticket online at: theregoesmyhero.org. Tickets are $75 in advance or $100 after February 6 and at the door.

Seven years ago, Hero’s founder Erik Sauer was diagnosed with acute leukemia, one week before his son Joey was born. Soon, Erik entered Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he spent four rocky months, receiving chemotherapy and, ultimately, a bone marrow transplant. Erik is fortunate to have found a match and be a survivor.  One of the first programs Erik started was trying to provide meals to patients and their families, like his neighbors had done for him. At first, he simply told friends, “I’ve set up a system where by prepared meals that have been frozen can be picked up,” and asked, “Now I need my friends and supporters to help out by preparing a meal or meals.  Do whatever you can do!”  Soon, Hero partnered with Moveable Feast, an established organization that puts healthy food on the table for people in Maryland with AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, Hero has been able to provide over 55,000 in the four years since the program began. The goal of Taste is to raise enough money to provide even more meals than the 20,000 Hero was able to provide last year.

Only $40 feeds a patient for a week, and the organization invites you to join the fight against leukemia in participating in this and other events.
