Bringing Joy to Those Fighting Blood Cancer
As school ends and summer begins, children eagerly embrace the outdoors, enjoying carefree days of play. However, amidst this seasonal joy, there are children whose days are marked by a different reality—a fight against blood cancer.
Imagine being a child diagnosed with blood cancer. Instead of being outside with friends, these children often spend their days indoors—their immune systems too fragile to risk exposure to infections. It’s a challenging journey marked by isolation and the harsh realities of treatment.
At There Goes My Hero, we draw inspiration from the courage of children like Andrew Mercier, who battled a rare form of leukemia before passing away in December 2019. Andrew’s journey inspired his parents to found Andrew’s Laughing Gas (ALG), a nonprofit dedicated to bringing joy to children fighting cancer. ALG donates goods like farting stuffed animals, which brought Andrew so much joy during his hospital stays, to hospitalized pediatric patients nationwide, to continue to spread his laughter.
Inspired by Andrew’s resilience, we are committed to helping all those impacted by blood cancer find moments of joy and hope. Through our efforts, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families during such a difficult time in their lives.
One way we do this is through our partnership with ALG to organize events like stuffing parties, bringing volunteers together to assemble these special farting stuffed animals. These animals not only bring laughter but also provide a sense of normalcy and joy to children facing difficult times.
Joining the bone marrow registry is another way to make a difference. Many children with blood cancer rely on finding a matching donor for life-saving transplants. By registering as a potential donor, you could be the match that saves a life.
