Introducing Our Newest Intern
Abigail Edwards is a rising sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Cellular Biology and Genetics with a minor in Humanities, Health, and Medicine. Abigail was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after her identical twin sister was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013. In September 2014, her twin sister received a life-saving bone marrow transplant from a donor in California. Motivated by this life-changing event, Abigail has set her sights on medical school with the goal of becoming a physician.
At school, Abigail is part of the Integrated Life Sciences Honors College (ILS), a holistic biological sciences-focused and accelerated curriculum for talented STEM students. This program emphasizes research opportunities for STEM students and community engagement. This year, as a mentor, Abigail will advise incoming freshmen in the program and offer academic and social support to help them acclimate to college life.
Having a personal connection to our mission, Abigail joined our team to make a difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges. She hopes to give back and connect with the community by sharing her story.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Abigail enjoys reading, playing video games, and listening to music in her free time. Some of her favorite artists include Pierce the Veil, Luke Bryan, and Falling in Reverse.
