Learning More About the Hero Fund
There Goes My Hero was founded in 2009 with the mission to save lives, provide hope, and help those impacted by blood cancer. One of the ways we are able to help those impacted by blood cancer is through the Hero Fund. The Hero Fund was established to help pay for the unanticipated costs of treatment for blood cancer patients and their families. This includes co-pays for medication, meals, roundtrip transportation, parking vouchers, and in-home care.
When our founder, Erik Sauer, was undergoing treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital, it was the unexpected costs of treatment that risked putting his family in financial jeopardy. “We had medical insurance to cover the basics of treatment, but my family was spending $12 per day to park at the hospital, paying for gas to and from the hospital, and purchasing meals. All of this while I was out of work for almost a year and half” says Erik.
Our Hero Fund can fill the gaps of blood cancer treatment by providing support for emergent needs and unanticipated expenditures that may not be covered by insurance or other sources of funding.
Our ability to provide this help to blood cancer patients and their families relies on our supporters’ donations to the Hero Fund. We take pride in our fundraising events and plan them in a way that inspires fun and positivity throughout the community. Events like HeroPalooza .5k and Crab Feast, the Bob Bell Automotive Charity Golf Tournament, and United Karting’s annual Chris Rachuba Cup help us raise money while also providing a fun experience.
Our events have become annual staples that the community looks forward to attending. The best way to get involved with TGMH is by attending one of these events and getting to witness our mission firsthand. We invite you to join us and experience the impact your support can have.
