Volunteer Spotlight: Kiro Rezkalla

Meet Kiro Rezkalla

Kiro believes in the power of giving back and since joining us in March, we’ve been eager to learn what inspired him to get involved. Read on to discover what drove him to volunteer with TGMH.

Tell us about yourself.

I work as an engineer for Clark Construction. In my free time, I usually watch sports, particularly soccer and football (Go Birds!🦅). I also try to spend time with family as much as I can during the weekend.

How did you first learn about There Goes My Hero?

I first heard about There Goes My Hero when I signed up to volunteer with my company. I signed up for the newsletter and looked for volunteering opportunities I could attend afterward.

What inspired you to get involved with us?

I liked the mission of the organization of not only spreading awareness but helping to connect donors with patients in need. I know plenty of people who suffer from cancer, including some of my family members, and having a small break like providing a meal can be a great win for them for the day. The organizers I met, like Mary Kaye, Olivia, and Andrea, were also very passionate about the cause and are really nice to work with.

Can you describe what volunteer opportunities you were involved in?

My first volunteering opportunity was at Hackerman-Patz making a dinner meal for the patients and their families. I was also involved in making Thanksgiving cards of encouragement for the patients for the holidays.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a volunteer with us?

The most rewarding aspect is knowing that the little time you spend helping some people can make a great difference. Having to provide one meal can free them from one more thing the patients and their families have to worry about.

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about volunteering with us for the first time?

Just sign up! There’s no need to worry about having anything specific to contribute. Simply showing up is enough. The only expectation is to be respectful of those around you. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, have fun, and make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
