Volunteer Spotlight: Renee Dlamini
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Renee Dlamini, a registered nurse and freelance health writer. I have a passion for making health content clear, engaging, and informative. In my free time, I enjoy acrylic and oil painting as hobbies.
How did you first learn about There Goes My Hero?
I was actively looking for organizations where I could volunteer as a writer. I discovered a post stating that they needed blog writers for their website. Their mission resonated with me deeply, and I felt compelled to get involved.
Can you describe what volunteer opportunities you were involved in?
I have written educational blogs about leukemia and lymphoma. Additionally, I wrote three blog posts for Black History Month, encouraging members of the Black and African American community to join the bone marrow registry. I found that very rewarding.
What inspires you to volunteer to help those impacted by blood cancer?
My family has been impacted by blood cancer; my mother was diagnosed with leukemia many years ago. I understand how important it is to have support from organizations like There Goes My Hero, so I am grateful for the opportunity to make a contribution.
What was the most rewarding aspect of being a volunteer with us?
The most fulfilling part of volunteering as a blog writer is knowing that my words can make a difference through education and empowerment.
Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about volunteering with us for the first time?
I would highly encourage anyone who’s thinking about volunteering to get involved. You will be working for a great cause. The Hero team really strives to improve the lives of those impacted by blood cancer. You can see it in everything they do. I have felt included and a part of the team; they made me feel right at home.
