Words of Hope – Happy Anniversary
August 16th, 2013
So yesterday, the 15th of August, was Lisa and I’s anniversary, our 15th on the 15th. This is year, we considered our family trip to Germany our present to each other, not bad… We did have dinner at Pairings Bistro in Bel Air. Jon Kohler has put together a very nice and unique menu, it’s worth traveling to eat there. In 2008, Lisa and I had our 10th anniversary. This anniversary was in the midst of the most difficult time of my leukemia treatment. I had just relapsed shortly after the first treatment and I had started over with an experimental chemo to find the remission that would allow for the bone marrow transplant. I was sick, beat up and uncertain of a lot of things. Our neighbors, Jason & Tammy, recognized it was our anniversary and gave us a gift certificate to The Capital Grille. On August 15th, 2008 we had our 10th anniversary at Hotel Hopkins. James Kinney, still the manager of Capital Grille today, personally delivered our meal. He brought a table cloth, glasses and silver. As many amenities as he could bring, he did. I did not know Jimmy at the time. I met him later at another event and we connected the dots that he had helped me when I was sick. Since then, Jimmy has allowed Hero to host board meetings at the Capital Grille providing us with amazing food, gratis. The essence of There Goes My Hero is to provide people in need with simple meaningful meals in their time of need. The 10th anniversary and meal at Hotel Hopkins will likely be one of my and Lisa’s most memorable.
