Your College Can Make a Difference
Diversity in the bone marrow donor registry is important because blood cancer patients are more likely to find a match from someone of the same racial or ethnic background. Yet, there is a lack of representation in the registry, giving patients of color a low chance of finding a match.
It is urgent that we diversify the registry. That is why we believe by working closely with colleges, we can raise awareness about the need for representation in the registry and increase the number of potential donors of color to give all blood cancer patients an equal chance of receiving a life-saving treatment.
Some colleges we have partnered with since 2023 include…
- Auburn University
- Community College of Baltimore County (Catonsville, Dundalk, and Essex)
- Coppin State University
- Drexel University
- Goucher College
- Johns Hopkins University
- Morgan State University
- Towson University
- University of Maryland, Baltimore County
- University of Maryland, College Park
- University of Maryland, Eastern Shore
Since partnering with these colleges, we have added over 150 people of color to the registry! Our progress so far has made a huge difference, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
How can you make a difference? By joining the bone marrow donor registry and hosting a bone marrow donor registry drive on your college campus. Every person that registers increases a blood cancer patient’s chance of finding a match. We are looking for people like you to diversify the registry. You can be the reason why someone survives. Be the difference today!
